Selecting Unique Baby Names

When you are expecting a new baby there is a lot to think about. Suddenly you are rearranging your lifestyle to prepare for their arrival, purchasing things that you had never thought about before like nappies and breast pumps, and most of all you are trying to plan for your child's future.

One of the biggest things that you need to do is to select a name for your baby. However, what if you do not want your child to have the same name as everyone else in his or her class? How do you go about selecting a unique and appropriate name for your child?

Your name is the first thing that people find out about you so you want to be sure that the name you give your baby will set them up for positive interactions in their future. You want your child to be special not someone to be made fun of.

Additionally, you will want to think about the rhythm of your child's name as a whole. You want their name to be able to trip of the tongue easily. For example if you have a very long last name you may want to choose a shorter and simpler first name and vice versa.

Watch overcomplicating the name as well. How you spell your child's name is very important. You do not want set your child up for disaster in the future. Additionally, be careful about the initials that you are creating for your new bundle of joy.

Though Annabel Susan Smith may be the name you are in love with, you are saddling your daughter with the initials A.S.S. That could predispose her to teasing for years to come. Additionally, be careful about choosing names that actually combine to make something funny. For example, if your last name is Box you do not want to call your son Jack.

When looking for unusual names why not think about honoring a family member or paying tribute to a literary or historical character that you have loved for many years. However, do not feel forced to use every family name. Take the time to carry on the ones that you really like. Additionally, you will want to be careful about picking names that are too popular.

If you choose the name Miley for a little girl, in honor of Miley Cyrus, you can be sure that as she grows up she'll be surrounded by little girls with the same first name. Instead, look toward the past a bit for some names that retain their beauty, but may have been forgotten.

If you still do not have an idea for a unique baby name why not delve into the world of geographic locations or human emotions. Savannah is a beautiful city and it can be just as beautiful of a name for a little girl. Additionally, names like Grace and Hope are timeless, but far from overused.

In truth, the search for unique baby names is a highly personal search. Follow your heart while double-checking with your head. Then finally settle on something that you are in love with.
