Caring For Your Newborn
A baby is a precious gift, however, caring for your newborn can seem quite overwhelming at times. Fortunately,
there are numerous ideas to help get parents over those big challenges.
One issue that comes up is selecting a paediatrician, other issues are vaccinations that the newborn needs, almost
from birth. Babies are more susceptible to diseases because their immune systems are still developing. Other issues
are things like babies having colic and other ailments.
A baby’s skin is the body's first line of defence and attention to caring for it should be a focus. The umbilical
cord also needs caring for until it dries and falls off. Nappy rash, or as some people call it diaper rash, is
another concern. Your newborn should have daily washes or bathing for cleanliness and health.
Find out about all these issues right away so you are prepared in advance if some situations pop up. It also pays
to have items that you will want to stock up on in advance, things like, nappies, medical supplies, bibs and a wide
variety of clothing. Don’t forget about basic baby gear like prams, cots, high chairs, etc.
Of course one important issue is food. The simplest and least expensive option is breastfeeding for at least the
first six months. Colostrum and the mother's breast milk supply is exactly what babies need for nutrition and a
healthy immune system development. However, for some mothers and babies that's just not an option. Baby formula can
be a great lifesaver.
Premature babies represent a special challenge as they are even more likely to develop some newborn problems and
issues. They are more likely to get allergies and development problems.
There's more to caring for your newborn baby than meets the eye, like keeping them safe from pets and household
dangers.
Sleeping problems for baby also affects mums and dads quality of life and in some cases be extremely testing, both
emotional and physical.
Providing baby-parent bonding is essential for good development. Time spent with your new loved one and doing
different activities is a good start. Things like infant massage, may be part of that bonding for both mum and
dad’s and a happy baby.
Parents these days have a hectic lifestyle and a new addition to the family can make things even more stressful.
Relations and friends might be called upon to help out in their own special way. From providing the odd meal, to a
shoulder to cry on, don’t forget to ask for help from friends or family. Anyone with a newborn baby will definitely
appreciate an extra pair of helping hands now and then.
Babies can be a challenge, even for experienced parents. With lack of sleep for the parents and a baby crying,
things can appear overwhelming. Just getting through the day can be a continual challenge, keep in mind that those
challenges can be overcome with a bit of time and learning. Remember the baby is learning as well.
Newborns grow very quickly, so please treasure every moment with them, as the time goes by way too fast!
