Baby
Toys
Despite some people's beliefs
that toys are just to keep a baby from being bored, they
are actually to help enhance their development and
co-ordination skills.
Toys are very important to a baby's learning process, and
should never be taken lightly or forgotten about.
Some new mum's don't start with toys right at birth, because
they figure they can't focus, touch, or grab them. Remember
babies can hear, and they will hear the toys sound.
Placing a toy on or near the baby's car seat can grab a
baby's attention as it grows, and help to develop their
eyes.
Toys that are black, white, and red are particularly good toys
for a newborn, and definitely toys that make noise. This will
also help baby's eyes to develop.
Have you noticed the baby rattles that attach to a babies
wrists and/or ankles? As the baby moves they rattle and make
noise. Eventually the baby will learn to turn their head in the
direction of the noise. You can imagine the surprise when the
infant begins to realize that they are the ones creating the
noise. The growth that toys help with in a baby's development
is amazing.
It's instinctual that a baby will try and reach out and grab a
toy, or listen and laugh at a toy. Babies are human and all
humans are born curious. The curiosity is the drive that gets
your child to learn different things. They want to see what
happens when they touch certain toys. They want to feel it. The
different textured toys will help to develop their sense of
touch.
The more toys the baby is exposed to, the different learning
patterns your child will go through. There is evidence that
babies are little sponges, and they absorb everything. Toys
satisfy that need to learn. Visual stimulus is great in all
aspects of the development of a baby.
As the baby grows from and infant and onto the toddler years,
the needs will begin to change. As the baby hits new
developmental milestones changing the toys to help achieve the
next milestone is important.
Older babies may be able to sit up and play on the phone
grabbing, pulling, and touching a bunch of toys. Perhaps they
want to pick up a big block and put it in their mouth. They
learn through their mouths too. If they are your toys, and you
know they are clean, there is nothing wrong with a baby putting
it in their mouth. They want to know what it tastes like. Maybe
touch it with their tongue.
Soon they will be walking and using toys to lean on as they try
to take their first steps. Maybe they are learning to roll
balls around, or throw them. As they continue to grow, so will
their toy box, and it's important to satisfy their
curiosity.
Playtime not only stimulates their brain, but it does help with
developing their strength in all areas. Leg strength, hand
strength, arm strength, are all developed during playing with
toys.
The next time you're purchasing more toys for your child, you
don't have to feel like your spoiling them. Realize that your
toy purchase is very important with your baby's
development.
Small toys, big toys, colorful, or just black and white, they
all have a purpose and that is to strengthen and develop your
baby along the way.
