Baby Prams

There are so many options out there today and it’s really important you do your research on the baby prams and choose one that suits your needs.  Do you just want something basic and aren’t that fussed or do you want a basinet, do you want to walk or jog with your baby, are you short or tall do you need an adjustable handle, will you require a toddler seat to attach later on and most of all you need to consider the comfort of  your baby …. there really is a bit to think about and you do really need to “test drive” them.

You need to take into account the size of your car and how your pram will fit into the boot.  Will it fit in without having to take it apart or will you have to remove wheels etc every time you lift it in and out of the car.  Keep in mind the weight of the pram also, as they can be quite heavy to lift in and out of the car.

Baby prams today come in so many colours, sizes and styles and obviously range in price.  Some prams are suited for newborn right up to approx 14kg and they can have the option of a basinet attachment or a sleeping bag which fits snug into the pram for newborns and can be removed as bubs grows out of it.  Ensure the pram has a  safety bar for extra protection.  They are also good for bubs to hold onto and you can also attach toys to them.

If you like to pound the pavement you may need to look at the 3 wheel joggers, the larger wheels make walking or jogging far easier, especially on uneven ground than say, a pram with smaller wheels like a stroller.

The option of forward or rear facing is also something to consider.  Being able to adjust the way your baby faces by either flipping the handle over or simply turning the basinet around is fantastic.  To have your baby facing forward so that you can see each others face is good for bonding and communication.  Your baby being able to see you and smile, gooh and gaah at you is so special and makes outings in the pram so much more interesting.

You will definitely need weather protectors, a sun shade cover and a rain cover to protect your baby from the weather aliments, while also keeping away those sticky little flies and insects.  Some shade visors attached to the pram come right over and protect your baby while others offer minimal protection.

An adjustable handle is a must especially if dad is really tall and mum is short or vice versa. A large carry basket under the pram is useful to store all your essential items, and are especially beneficial on those shopping trips!  You can also get drink bottle attachments to hold your water bottle.

We do rely on a good baby prams for the first few years of our child’s lives, there are new designs coming out all the time so you are sure to get the right pram for you and your baby.  You may find that as life changes you need to update your pram for example if you have your children close together in age you may need to add a toddler seat to your original pram or you may prefer a side by side or tandem pram.

Whatever your needs are, think of your pram as an investment in your baby’s safety.  Do your research on the different type of baby prams and your outings will be so much more enjoyable.
