Baby Change Table
A Baby Change Table certainly makes life easier for parents with their multiple uses, whether you are changing
or bathing your baby. A baby change table allows you to change, bath or dry bubs while you are standing rather than
having to bend, it is much kinder on your back and everything is at your finger tips.
Some change tables come with a bath built in and is retractable. You simply slide the bath out when you need it
and slide it back in when you have finished, others have a removable bath. Ensure you chose one with a built in
drain hole and a tube so you can easily drain the water out into the big bath or sink. (Otherwise you have to lift
a bath full of water which can get quite heavy and messy.)
Your baby change table needs to be sturdy and should have an adjustable safety strap, some are
Velcro and others plastic clips. As with anything that concerns the safety of your baby never leave them unattended
on the table.
Most change tables come in a range of colours and with cute patterns on the change pad. They are available in
plastic or metal frames. You can also get a wide variety of beautiful wooden designs and stains.
Some quality wooden baby change tables can be quite expensive, but are elegant. They have storage shelves and
compartments which are great for storing your nappies, wipes, bubble bath, singlets and other essentials that you
need to have readily available. Some change tables are big enough to stack plenty of towels and babies clothes and
look more like chested drawers.
It’s good if the change pad is plastic/pvc so if you don’t get the nappy on in time you can easily sterilised and
wipe it clean. You can place a cloth nappy on the plastic pad if you feel it’s too cold on bubs.
Some tables also have rollers (lockable castors) and are portable this is good as you can easily move them from one
room to another if required.
Other baby change tables are collapsible like high chairs, just make sure they are wide enough in the base and you
lock the legs into place. Some change tables/ are designed to be placed over the big bath, the length can be
adjusted to suit the size of your bath.
Still other baby tables can be attached to the wall in the bathroom and the table can open out. No matter what baby
change table you choose, just make sure it is sturdy and standard approved for babies safety.
There are quite a range of change tables available and various brands that you are bound to find one to suit your
needs. A baby change table will save your back and make life easier if used correctly.
